๐ Translating GhostStat just got a lot easier
We now have a dedicated tool for it: translate.ghoststat.me.
No more copying files by hand or pasting en.php into threads โ you translate
right in the browser, string by string, and the tool builds the language packs
for us. This forum stays the place to coordinate and chat; the tool is where
the actual translating happens.
Here's the whole flow.
1. Sign in
Go to translate.ghoststat.me and click
Sign in with GhostStat โ it's the same account you already use for the app.
No new password.
2. Pick your language
The home page lists every language already in progress โ click one to open its
hub. Don't see yours? Type its code in the "start a new language" box
(e.g. de, fr, gr) and hit Go. Any language works, and common codes are
smart about it โ /gr opens Greek, /jp opens Japanese, and so on.
If no one has started your language yet, you'll see a "be the first" screen โ
click Start translating, and you're the founding translator. That also
creates the language's discussion tag here on the forum automatically.
3. Join the team โ translator or reviewer
On a language hub you'll see two roles:
- Translator โ open to anyone. Click Join as translator and you're in.
- Reviewer โ this one is earned. Reviewers approve translations (and their
approval is what locks a string in), so it unlocks once you've had 50 of your
own translations approved โ or a coordinator promotes you. Until then you'll
see a note telling you how close you are.
You can be a translator in one language and a reviewer in another. Coordinators
can review anywhere.
4. Translate
- On the hub, pick a project (the core app, or any plugin) โ the list shows
how far along each one is.
- Claim the file. This soft-locks it to you so two people don't overwrite
each other. If someone else holds it, you'll see ๐ claimed by โฆ and it's
read-only for you until they release it (or it auto-frees after 14 idle days).
- Translate each string: the English is shown, you type the translation, then
Save draft (keep working) or Submit (send it for review). Progress
updates live.
- Done with a file? Release it so the next person can pick it up.
You never touch the keys โ the tool keeps those identical to English for you.
Just translate the meaning, and leave placeholders like %count% or {name}
exactly where they are.
5. Review (reviewers)
Reviewers see Approve / Reopen on each string. Approving locks it in and
counts toward the language's "approved" progress; reopening sends it back to draft
for another pass. Approve on merit, not to be nice โ a good pack is a reviewed
pack.
6. Watch it come together
Each language hub shows overall progress and the team (who's translating,
who's reviewing โ inactive folks are greyed out). We also keep a live status
thread for each language right here in Plugin Translations, so you can see and
discuss progress without leaving the forum.
7. Etiquette
- Coordinate in your language's thread before diving into a big file.
- Claim only what you'll actually work on, and release when you step away.
- Partial is fine โ untranslated strings just fall back to English, so a
half-finished pack is still useful and safe to ship.
8. What you get ๐
Every approved translation counts. Rack them up and you're on The Translator
path to a free GhostStat Pro account, for life โ see the Contributors
page in the tool for the leaderboard, and The Ghost Guild for how the rewards
work.
Plugin authors: adding your own plugin's strings to the tool is part of the
normal plugin workflow โ keep every visible string as a key in your
i18n/en.php and it shows up here automatically once it's scanned. See the
Build a GhostStat plugin post in the Developer Zone.
